I saw him in the Grande Place

Oil on wood panel 8" x 8" This painting is currently not for sale

It's very interesting to sit in the Grande Place in Brussels, the old centre of trade and commerce, surrounded by these wonderful old buildings, and just observe the world going by, everyone in their own little "cocoon". It was a cold day but the sky was very bright and pale, lighting up faces and clothes.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the layered color and the contrast of his soft coat against the hard buildings in the distance.

Thank you Camille. Those huge buildings are a trial to do because you want to convey the structure without the fiddly detail.

I love so much that you don't do fiddly detail. Gives these that wonderful hazy feeling. I was just looking at your sheep on the other blog, with the limited subtle palette... takes my breath away. I will aspire to less fiddly detail after looking at your work again today.

Well sometimes I do get fiddly Camille. I feel it is more "me" not to get fiddly but every day we wake up and it's a new adventure all over again !

Wonderful, Sheila. Bold and fearless. I like how the figure locks into and continues the shapes of the background. There's a tension created by the line of the right-hand building aligning with his back. It creates an edginess that makes it memorable.

You know Don, I never consciously noticed that - and now I see how the shape of his hat is echoed by the Dome in the distance. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Gorgeous painting, like an old master's. Your palette lately is to die for. Very rich.

I really enjoy the mystery this painting holds. I love the fact we feel so close to the figure yet can't see their face which only leaves our imagination to wonder who this person is, where is he going, etc. Beautifully painted!
