The Balcony

Oil on hardboard 8" x 8"
This building was in the Cimiez area of Nice. I think it's an area that many, many years ago belonged to Italy. In fact much of that coast line at one time was in Italian hands. There is an air of ostentatious gracefulness in many of the buildings which are now let out as apartments (and they cost a fortune to rent). This one reminds me of Romeo and Juliet!

OMG this series is wonderful, with the lighter southern palette. Beautiful work Sheila!
Thanks Stephen, yes, my more sombre northern palette just doesn't work with these paintings but it's fun to have a change!
Bon Jour ... yes, you are correct that NICE belonged to Italy ... and Antibes, was the first town along the sea in France ... I am the artist in residence in Antibes for three months ... and it made me VERY happy to see your lovely painting. How inspirational !!!

Hello Ann! Great to hear from you in Antibes. This year was my first ever visit to Antibes although I have been to Nice before. Actually I only managed to get to Antibes for one day but I loved it, even more than Nice I think. I had a wonderful lunch too at the Tire Buchon in the little square in the old town. The food there is amazing. I am now enjoying your blog with all the news of the south of France. Happy painting and happy days to you!
I just love your painterly style, you truly look like you love what you do. And I so enjoy looking at your work.
The not for sale paintings are so subconcious and much more you are truly versatile.
Thanks anon - I think being versatile is not a "conscious" decision on my part. I just go where my fancy takes me really.
