Ghosts in the park

In England, especially in the north of England, the Victorians built municipal parks. This was so that the factory workers would have somewhere to walk on Sundays which was green and flowery because very few of them would have outside gardens to their homes. These parks are very formal and laid out in close clipped lawns and flower beds. I don't know why but I think there is a sense of spookiness in the park. It's hovering, just slightly there, although these ghosts don't look very threatening do they.

I would love to visit these parks in England sometime. Very intriguing painting, Sheila!
Yes, I think they are unique in terms of design. There is usually a bowling green and a duck pond and these days a children's play area (but that is a fairly new invention).
I love this painting and how you have shown the ghost-like quality that you are telling about. This painting leads to a story that is curious.
Thanks so much for saying that Gretchen. I really appreciate it.
Love these whimsical compositions, the park so still the figures full of movement, you manage to kind of condense contradictions, and simplify reality.
Simon, you've done it again - said such interesting and thought provoking things and I'm really happy you are saying them about my work. Yes, I do like "stillness". I'm glad that comes through.
Magical, Sheila!!
Thank you Diane.
Love it. The colors give a ghostly mood, too.
Its wonderful how late the light stays in England in the Summer. I would love to go there then.
Mary, thank you. Glad you like this one. Yes, the light stays a long time in summer but we have now gone past the longest day, so sadly it is now starting to go dark around 9.15pm.
