Commission and Gallery visit

I've been working on a commission so not had much time for my daily paintings the last day or so. Today I went to Leeds City Art Gallery in Yorkshire and their annual Open show was on. It's a juried show (I didn't enter - don't even know if I qualify, not living in Yorkshire) and there were 124 works selected. What was interesting was that all the artists' 'year of birth' was posted in the description to each work and I realised there were quite a few of us "oldies". So i went round and counted all the exhibitors who were born before 1950 and there were 38 of them! And some of the most provocative, modern and interesting work came from that set. Naturally this delighted me and spurred me on in my painting endeavours! Also, just under half the exhibitors were women. I think Leeds must operate an 'equal opportunities' policy. Well done, Leeds! Glad I didn't miss it.

(nodp - this means Daily Painters web site please don't publish this as its not a picture!)

Yes, it was a really good day. Don't know how far away you are Keith but it is worth a visit. It finishes on 31st August though.
