Hide and Seek

Acrylic on wood 10" x 10" Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting

The park has a surreal feel for me. Those manicured lawns and cut out flower beds and curving, never ending paths.

(I tried some new blues with this one (new for me anyway) - phalo blue green shade and an Atelier Interactive colour called 'Pacific Blue'. I don't use Atelier - mostly for acrylics I use Winsor & Newton - but this particular shade caught my eye and it makes lovely grey-greens when mixed with yellows.) (There is a bit of glare at the top - sorry about that.)

Hi Sheila
like this, yes know exactly what you mean about parks they really are like surreal stage sets, I think your onto a rich vein here. They are ready made settings for formal happenings. Bit like a stage where you can make your own rules up, its the convention. Maybe because parks are artificial landscapes you can have artificial or invented rules for the protagonists.

Very expressive...it feels deeply personal. I would be a little frightened to either hide or seek in this disorienting landscape.

Hi Simon, the 'stage set' idea is so appropriate. Thanks for articulating that. I do have plans for new park paintings and am looking forward to the autumn and winter for more park inspiration!

Don, thanks, yes, I suppose these more surreal efforts are personal - in a number of different ways - both actual and metaphorical - but it's good to think that they also speak to other people as well. I'm enjoying working on these right now.
