Woodend mill Studios (1)

interior painting mill factory artist studio north england

This painting has been sold

Acrylic on hardboard 8" x 8"

This is a section of one of the Woodend mill artist's studios. His name is Chris Cyprus and he is a brilliant painter who loves to paint allotments and landscapes. Sorry Chris I have not done your landscape on the back wall there much justice. In reality that is a beautiful painting. Please click here for a link to Chris's work.

I was tempted to switch to oils about two thirds way through this but decided I would experiment with using much more solid body colour in the large floor area whilst keeping colour variation. I knew I wanted a body colour feel rather than a water colour feel.

Sheila, Your paintings are a knockout. I love your strong sense of design and painterly style.
When I come away from looking at your work I feel as though I’ve just drunk in large measures of fresh invigorating cosmic air. It wakes me up.

Marcia, thanks so much for your kind comment. I feel very complimented as my "painterly style" is one of the things I feel I really need to work hard at. I loved seeing your sculptures on your blog. It was what I wanted to concentrate on at one time (eons ago!).

Jala, in the north of england many houses did not have gardens or only a very small patch, so it became the custom to use a spare piece of agricultural land, maybe just outside of town, as space which people could rent and use as a vegetable patch to grow their own stuff. They might have a little shed there in which they could store their tools and seeds etc. This custom is still thriving and in fact it is difficult to find a "free" allotment these days.

Your paintings remind me of Gwen John. The quiet luminosity of this painting is very beautiful!
