Hide and Seek

Acrylic on wood 10" x 10" Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting

The park has a surreal feel for me. Those manicured lawns and cut out flower beds and curving, never ending paths.

(I tried some new blues with this one (new for me anyway) - phalo blue green shade and an Atelier Interactive colour called 'Pacific Blue'. I don't use Atelier - mostly for acrylics I use Winsor & Newton - but this particular shade caught my eye and it makes lovely grey-greens when mixed with yellows.) (There is a bit of glare at the top - sorry about that.)

Commission and Gallery visit

I've been working on a commission so not had much time for my daily paintings the last day or so. Today I went to Leeds City Art Gallery in Yorkshire and their annual Open show was on. It's a juried show (I didn't enter - don't even know if I qualify, not living in Yorkshire) and there were 124 works selected. What was interesting was that all the artists' 'year of birth' was posted in the description to each work and I realised there were quite a few of us "oldies". So i went round and counted all the exhibitors who were born before 1950 and there were 38 of them! And some of the most provocative, modern and interesting work came from that set. Naturally this delighted me and spurred me on in my painting endeavours! Also, just under half the exhibitors were women. I think Leeds must operate an 'equal opportunities' policy. Well done, Leeds! Glad I didn't miss it.

(nodp - this means Daily Painters web site please don't publish this as its not a picture!)

I have promises to keep

This painting has been sold

Acrylic on hardboard approx 8" x 8"

This is a deliberately dark painting with hardly any light relief in it. The lightest things are the halos around the feet of the two figures.
I stole the title from Robert Frost. Here is an extract from one of his poems:

The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep.

Self portrait in the attic

Oil on hardboard 8" x 8" £65 (British pounds) plus postage & packing (£7 to US; £3.50 to UK and Europe)

Whenever you get stuck as to what to paint a still life or a self portrait will fit the bill. I'm beginning to look like Mrs. Pepperpot (don't ask).

The Meal

Acrylic on hardboard 8" x 8" This painting is not for sale

This is one of the grandchildren when he was little, sitting at my dining room table. Looks like he was eating chips and pie. I don't know why there were no knives and forks on the table - it is a myth that people north of Birmingham don't use cutlery, :-D.
He is using his fingers so delicately though and seems unconcerned about his solitude.

Adventure in the park

This painting has been sold

Oil on hardboard 8" x 8"

I am back for a couple of days before leaving again on Sunday for a week. I managed to get this one done this morning, inspired by a wonderful painting by the British painter the late Victor Pasmore called "The Park" which he did in 1947.
