Figure drawing

drawing life costume model male studio atelier gallery

Charcoal on paper 23" x 16"

Not had time to do any painting lately but I did manage to get to my figure/life drawing session on Monday evening. Most people (in fact everyone I think) did a painted portrait of this handsome young man but I want to practise drawing the whole figure. I love to include the background as well as you can see from one of my fellow practitioners working away there.

I looked up the painter you mentioned, David Brayne (I think that was the spelling). His artwork reminds me of yours in many ways! It sounds like he's using the marble dust + watercolor as a ground for putting dry pigments on top...almost identical to putting pastel on top of it.

Hi DJ - it's charcoal. I like it better than pencil I think.

i am a amazed at artists who can focus in these classes being someone who finds it difficult to do so (and i want to walk up to the subject and analyse which others may not appreciate). excellent work!

Rahina - like you I think I would prefer to work on my own with a model but my situation is such that I can't do that for a number of reasons. This group is the next best thing and it does have other advantages. For instance I am always absolutely amazed at break time when we wander round and look at each other's personal efforts how very different they all are from each other.
