Triad

painting figurative green blue abstract

Acrylic on hardboard 14" x 14"

Well, we'll see. I'll live with it for a bit.

This was posted on 10th and its now the 12th and I'm still feeling comfortable with this one. Once I'm comfortable with a painting I can kind of forget about it. It's the ones which are not quite "right" (in my books) which keep calling me back. (Hence, when they see me coming, the paintings hutch up against each other and try to hide behind furniture, LOL).

Love the colours, love the red underpainting (?) showing through.

Marjorie, really pleased you like this. I was fairly happy about it but was not sure any one else would like it!

Simon, yes there sure is a red underpainting. I got rid of most of it I thought as I worked with the greens. Are you still seeing "red edges" or are you assuming a red underpainting because of the feel of the flat green areas? I also have a rectangle of dry brush worked dark red on top of the green top left. So glad you like the colours. It was risky!

Love it!
The mood is unusual, and the figures are intriguing.
It would make a good series; go for it.

I think you are on to something with these stylized figures. I like the way they move off both top and bottom.

Hi Don, I'm always fascinated by the idea of the "frame" of a painting not being the end of things but me wanting it to be. (Probably Freudian and better to be ignored, LOL)

Haven't visited for awhile -am quite moved by this body of work..the expanse of negative space and placement and scale of your figures are really intriguing and evocative..your colour juxtapositions/applications are really yours and the honesty/integrity in your work and your writings are refreshing...thank you!

Jan, I really appreciate your comments here. I have just re-visited your blog too and your recent work is so refreshingly independent - plus the blue is "to die for" as they say!
