Life study 22nd July 2010
Acrylic on hardboard 12" x 12"
This was last night's studio painting. I worked on a board I had already prepared with a ground of grey (ultramarine, raw umber and a touch of white). It's a really nice background to paint flesh colours onto and I have prepped a few more boards in this way in readiness. Two hours is not long but maybe long enough to learn something about the human form. There is no doubt that working from life you see "more colour" - and it's also thoroughly fascinating to do (well at least that's my current response but as Hockney says - dont take any notice of what an artist says, just look at what he (sic) does.

Thanks for the kind comments on my blog. You've made some changes over the last few months, too. The surreal subjects have been very interesting. "Tableau vivant" under went very cool transformation, I'm not sure I could do that big a change in one painting. It's a completely different picture with a whole new atmosphere. take care
You are creating beautiful work, Sheila!
I enjoy seeing your art, and whatever is ongoing in your artistic
life.
One of my very favorite artists has always been Hockney. He has been much too maligned by critics over the years. But, another reason I like him is for his attitude; he's too busy being an artist to give a hoot about what others say of him, and his work.
Onward!
Bruce, thanks for the visit and the kind words. Making the changes wasnt so difficult - I just kept telling myself it was only a piece of hardboard, LOL. Glad you like it though.
Thank you Linny. I keep trying!
Hi William, yep Hockney does get the dirty end of the stick very often but as you say he just lets it slide off his broad Yorkshire back. I admire him tremendously and he's a great inspiration. Actually I just live over the hills from him! (but sadly we have never met).
