Figure study
Acrylic on hardboard 12" x 12"
Last night's model, with her upswept hair and black choker necklace, took me back to the Musee d'Orsay in Paris with all the beautiful impressionist portraits of Degas, Manet, Caillebotte, Fantin Latour and others. One room had portraits done all in pastel. They were amazing. Makes me want to try.

Sheila, you handled the folds in her garment masterfully...I like the strokes to the left to carry the viewer's eye back into the painting.
lovely~!
Beautifully done. The various colors in her hair give such depth and richness to that upswept look and the folds in her blouse are lovely.
Thanks DJ. I enjoyed working on the garment.
Thank you Cindy!
yes, love it too! Very well done, staying true to your palette
I really like this and I can see the influence here, of the masters, with how you've set it up!
Do add Cezanne to the list, Sheila. Your brushwork is just exquisite, never overwrought.
Olha, thanks, as the days go on though I begin to want to work some more on the background colour. You know how it is, we are never satisfied are we.
Thank you Raena and welcome to the blog.
Diane, good to see you and thanks for the kind words. Cezanne has to be one of my all time favourite painters. I believe he really was the forebearer of "modern art". I was not aware he did much work in pastel though but I could be wrong.
Nice interpretation of the fabric and overall color unity.
Thank you Lisa.
This is absolutely beautiful, Sheila!
Thanks Liza, love your recent work!
fantastic, Sheila. Love the color harmony and what DJ said too ;)
Thanks Mary for the kind words.
