A Northern Girl

This painting has been re-worked. See posting for April 14th - 'Survivor'

Acrylic on hardboard 12" x 12"

I don't want to fall into the trap of painting beautiful women but what can you do when your model is sweet sixteen. Aren't they all beautiful?

Very much like your paint manipulation and your solitary figures (even when they are not alone).

Hi Sheila,

I am an artist who regularly falls into the trap of painting beautiful women. I'd love to paint you for instance. This is a gorgeous painting.

You know I read somewhere the number one best selling "subject" in painting is beautiful women in nature!! Lovely painting, and yes of course all 16 year olds are beautiful. Aint it a waste? Kidding of course. (:

Hi Barbara, I also think it's about capturing the "beauty" that is within people. That magic evidence simply of "the human condition". I think we all try to do that a lot of the time.

Diane, that's an interesting comment about waste. I think I'd agree - girls are not sufficiently emotionally mature to make the best of their physical advantages but then that is nature "scoring a point". (If they had the emotional maturity to match their looks perhaps they would not produce as many children?)
