Hill People (revisited)

Acrylic on hardboard 24" x 24"

After a week's break I have today done some re-working of the 'Hill People' painting. (I took the previous version off). I'm sort of interested in it so for me that is the key factor. I can't say I won't still work on it but for now I think it's in a temporary state of survival. Tribes, clans, communities, we all think they're odd unless we belong to one.

Clans and tribes. Good observation, and we all do belong to one. Humanity.

Love this.

Grant Wood's folk were grim, too. Members of the humorless tribe. Abject party-poopers, they're forever cursed to be the butt of bad poster art.

I love it Sheila, it's odd and compelling, and a little discomfiting in a desirable way.

Thanks Barbara. Yes, that is one way of looking at it!

Sam, ah "American Gothic". I have carried Grant Wood's painting in my head since first seeing it many years ago. There is something of the party pooper in many of us I guess (laugh out loud).

Karen, thanks. That's exactly how I hoped it would be seen.
