Self portrait on green

Oil on canvas board 14" x 11"

This is a substantial re-work of Self portrait on yellow (now removed from blog). You know a friend of mine has a saying "Risk is the price of opportunity". For me I always feel painting in oils is a risk - I have to try to make "good choices" on the spot and as soon as I can, whilst when I work in acrylics I think it makes me lazy because I know the paint will be dry in a minute and I can overwork so if I misjudge a colour it can easily be corrected. I need to take more risks. I also introduced here some colours I very rarely use - cadmium red, cadmium yellow and lemon yellow. The difference to me is immediate. As to style I confess to being heavily influenced here by a Welsh painter who died in 2006. His name was Kyffin Williams. He painted portraits and landscapes of his native Wales. You can see some of them if you Google (images) "Kyffin Williams portraits". I was in South Wales earlier this year and bought his book called "Portraits". I think it is the nicest painting book I own. Against each portrait is a little story, written by Kyffin, about the person and the process of doing the painting. Great stuff.
Yep, I am working on bigger pieces still but don't want to show anything yet.
