Acrylic on canvas panel 9" x 7".... This painting has been SOLD
There is a Dutch artist called Philip Akkerman who only ever paints himself and most of the time it is a full up front face filling the canvas. The last account I read of him was that he had around 3,000 paintings - all self portraits. He uses different techniques and styles and it's an interesting idea. Personally though I like to take breaks from painting myself. However, the advantage of ourselves as a model is that we are always there and don't charge anything! I also like how each painting turns out slightly differently. These three were painted in quick succession for example, so it was the same face, same lighting, same mood, but 3 different paintings.

I like these a lot. Better for having the three, I think. Really interesting primitive aspects to the last one.
I tried doing a self-portrait once, but my model was way too difficult to work with.
How interesting that an artist would just paint himself. I would imagine he got quite good and how wonderful it would be to see the collection of paintings. I think you did well with your own portraits. So interesting.
Thanks Sam, you should have slapped her hand! It always works!
Hi Ruth, thanks. If you click on the Philip Akkerman link on my blog I think that shows you his website with some exhibition coverage.
