Addis Life III The Taxi Driver's House

This painting has been sold

Oil on Daler Board 12" x 10"

These blue and white taxis are everywhere in Addis. It's quite a good job to have especially if you can pick up a few Europeans or Americans along the way who are willing to pay more than the "standard" local price. Invariably the taxi drivers are good natured and willing to chat, as far as their English will allow. You never somehow think of them having a home of their own but here it is! What I loved about this house was the way someone had painted a red diamond on the porch facade there.

  1. Wow--terrific, Sheila. Great color scheme, especially the varied blues. The viewpoint and clarity of values and shapes makes it very compelling--moody somehow, as in the best of all your work.

  3. Don, thanks, I was trying quite hard with this one to achieve the clarity of shapes without losing mood, so I'm really glad you said that.

  7. Cooper and Zack, many thanks. I feel really "chuffed" as we say in the north of England to get such praise from the young guys!
