Oil on hardboard 8" x 8"
I don't normally like pink but these carnations were an interesting colour, more on the peachy side, and the jug has a sort of bluish caste to it so it made quite a nice combination. Note the change of style - I'm just going with the flow.. : )
I think you are perhaps more sensitive to stylistic shifts in your work than others are. To me, This is instantly recognizable as yours, and in character with your other work.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting Don. We can never see ourselves as others see us can we. I know for sure I am very interested in form, shape, angles, both positive and negative. Also I am very interested in tonal distribution, and consciously include dark and light areas but sometimes don't always get the balance right (ie you shouldn't have equal or near equal quantities of these technically speaking). Those, for me, are the commonalities in my paintings. And maybe that is what you see? For me, the differences emerge in terms of a)colour choices (I don't stick to the same set of colour choices although my 'palette' remains basically the same) and b) the way I apply the paint. I am still experimenting with these two things and don't feel as if I want to rush myself yet. For me this is a fascinating "process" and I feel privileged to be on the journey. Didn't you yourself say something similar lately? Thanks for your response Don. It was very useful and well appreciated.
ReplyDeleteA lovely painting! I agree with Don, after looking at your other posts this definitely has the same feel of your other work. Beautiful tonalist paintings, I'll be back to see more!
ReplyDeleteKim, thanks for stopping by and for your encouraging words. I have looked at your blog now - didn't know it before - beautiful landscapes!
ReplyDeleteI really like this, it has a nice warm feel to it and to me yes it has those interesting angles and shapes that are unmistakeably yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks Triecia, I really appreciate your supportive words and taking the trouble to stop by.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Don. Everything about this looks like your work- the palette, the point of view, the cropping and the way the forms are handled. You just can't help being you! Lovely work.
