Acrylic on hardboard 8" x 8"
Another still life on the same theme. The pears were very similar in colour to the cloth which posed some juicy technical challenges. I usually do my still lives from life and in natural light coming through a dormer window in the attic where I paint. Quite often this light is from an overcast sky and is quite cool although in this case the painting has predominantly warm tones.
I'm enjoying the design approach in much of your recent work, playing off large, simplified shapes against smaller areas of greater complexity. I see it in your recent landscapes as well. You handle acrylic beautifully.
ReplyDeleteYes, the design element is quite important to me I think; almost intuitively I find myself creating lines and shapes. Hopeless at maths, good at geometry :-). I still haven't given up on oils Don - I think there are different advantages to both. What I like about acrylics is the ability to "develop" an image and let it grow out of the picture plane by constantly re-working all areas until I feel the painting is finished. I find with oils I have to make a lot of colour decisions initially before putting the brush to the painting surface.
ReplyDeletevery solid Sheila,design and coloring...
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a piece that should be in the museum. Great angles.
