Well, this is a new one for me in a number of ways. It is the first time I have painted in oils on canvas for a few years (and I must say I really enjoyed the process). This was an acrylic painting first done about 2005 and whilst I liked the composition and the subject I was not satisfied with the paint handling. I decided to totally re-work it in oils keeping to neutral colours and soft edges as well as I could. It was interesting because the original was done from reference photos but although I found the original photos this time I largely just used them for reference and found that I was hardly looking at them. My memories of that winter break in Paris and Brussels a few years ago is still strong in my mind, so look out for a few more like this.
