Acrylic on hardboard 8" x 8"
Couldn't resist this one with the canvas under her arm.
Learning strategy: I used the paint quite thinly on the smooth, primed masonite surface. I painted in many layers, sanding down the whole surface lightly after each layer (it took a while!). Even when I did the final sanding, because the paint was still quite thin, you can still see the ridges of the original dark underpainting showing through.
By the way, if you want to see some brilliant bike paintings go to Rob Ijbema's blog where he's done a fantastic series around the Tour de France.
Love these little bike paintings Sheila! Also the insight into your process-
ReplyDeleteThank you Deborah. I have given myself permission for the month of August to try out different approaches and see what happens :)
