Herengracht

This painting has been sold

Oil on hardboard 8" x 7.5"

The Herengracht is one of the rings of the canal system around which the city of Amsterdam is built. It was the canal where the "gentlemen" or ordinary merchants lived (Rob and Rene correct me if I am wrong). A single thin sliver of sunlight was getting through at the top there. I had to zoom right in on the photo to get this view.

  2. Yes the houses there are so beautiful. I went into a very old house that was left to the City by a rich merchant's family. It was like walking into an early Dutch painting.
