  3. I took a close look at your work after you left me such a nice comment today...

You have an amazing ability -- everything looks so real. I don't mean photorealistic--that style doesn't do much for me -- but your colors, and textures of objects, and light, is amzing. And your compositions are wonderful.

Unfortunatly, the DP thumbnails don't really do it justice...but I am so glad I took a closer look!

Wow Sheila, this work is beautiful! You captured atmosphere and light in an exceptional way, and I must admit I was a bit disappointed when I was the NFS.

  5. Thanks Rhonda and Materese,
Your comments mean a lot to me. I do not enter for many shows but last year I was fortunate to get selected for the juried show held by the Society for Women Artists. It is a long established society and one of the founder members was Dame Laura Knight who is quite a well known painter in Britain (or was). I want to enter again and as I have little time to paint at the moment, anything I do which seems half decent I want to "store up" so that in March/April I will have a few paintings from which to select my best for submission. I am working on a big figurative painting at the moment for the same show. Therefore, there won't be as many paintings posted nor anything with prices on for quite a while!

  8. I love this one, Sheila. The objects are seemingly just the way you might happen upon them, but their arrangement is very effective. And the lighting of the vase is magic!

  9. Thanks so much Deborah. I tried to keep things as naturally as I could - that is as I found them - but the vase had to be "placed". It's a fun way to do still lives.

  10. Sheila- are you familiar with the work of the Bristish artist Bernard Dunstan? It just dawned on me this morning that your still lifes- in both paltte and composition, remind me of his. He wrote several books, including one on painting still life, which I have and have been searching for (without success) today. Anyway, just thought I would mention it.

  11. Thanks Deborah, that is indeed a compliment. I saw a couple of his interiors last year in London and they are incredible. I kept going back taking another look. I would like a copy of that book too if you can let me have the details. There are some good second hand bookshops on the web now.
