Life Class I

Compressed charcoal on paper approx 26" x 19"

I have started a life class on Wednesday evenings. The first one was last night and this is one of the pieces I completed. It was an amazing experience to go into an "art room" again. I haven't done this since I was sixteen! I want to get back to doing some larger figurative paintings again and I thought this was a good way of warming up. The compressed charcoal was great to work with too. (It's about three years since I picked up a stick of charcoal.) Another bonus was that as we made our way to the art room the walls were decorated with the day students' work and some of it was amazingly beautiful. Who says young artists don't paint any more.

  1. Hi there,

I recently found your blog and I think you're amazing...a real pure artist. Your paintings are absolutely stunning and I love the fact that you just started taking another drawing class..good for you. I've been working as an artist professionally for about twelve years now and I just signed up for a painting class to get a fresh perspective and knock some things around in my head. I think it's healthy. You're great! I look forward to checking back.

    All my best to you,
    Todd

  2. Thanks Todd for your encouraging words. I have looked today at your wonderful boat paintings. There is such serenity in them. Yes, the class is great. It is not so much that I think that we are looking "to be taught" - it is just as you say - to get a fresh perspective. And to be honest I don't get to meet many people in my daily life who paint or draw. All my painter friends live in cyberspace!
    Thanks again,
    Sheila
