Oil on hardboard 8" x 8"
For the month of August, to support the "Tribute to a Beautiful Earth" initiative of The Daily Painters Gallery I am going to try to produce 31 paintings around "Bicycle" themes. It's going to be fun to try to accomplish, will give me some discipline and it has potential beneficial spin-offs in terms of learning. Firstly I will have to work every day from my photographs and this gives me an opportunity to be more creative about that. Secondly, because my subject is already decided for me, I can be free to concentrate on different methods, approaches and styles, so I'm going to try that too. By the way, I'm sure you know that cycling is a far cleaner way environmentally of getting around. (Not that I'm preaching - I must confess I can only cycle in a straight line, I never learned how to go round corners :D ), but I've only got a small car and I do try to take the train or walk whenever possible.
Learning strategy for this one: Limit the palette.
I like this Sheila, with the limited palette the yellow flower really pops. It will be interesting watching you do all of these bicycle paintings, a good challenge.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Barbara. Yes, I shall probably not want to paint another bicycle ever again by the end of August!
ReplyDeletethat must be holland, bike on the bridge, backlighting, just the way i like it...wat is it with bikes?
ReplyDeleteYes sure, it's Amsterdam. I have been a few times. I really like the place. Bikes = saving the environment = sustainability. It's the Daily Painter's Gallery thing for the month of August (I'm a member) only they watered it down (the theme I mean) and called it "Tribute to a beautiful Earth" because it offended some people's sensibilities.
