During our visit to Haddon Hall there was a 'Tudor Group' demonstrating Tudor crafts and household practices. This young lady seemed to be mixing ointments and creams from various grasses and herbs, but I was so taken visually by everything around me that I paid insufficient attention to what she and the rest of the Group were actually doing. She looked like she had stepped right out of a Vermeer painting. The room she was in was quite dark and poky with just one small window. My photographs of this did not turn out very well but I had a very strong impression of what I was seeing which seemed to carry me through the painting.
I was just thinking: Vermeer! before I read down your description. He is my favorite of all. Great take! And thanks coming over to my blog and your kind comments. It's great to hear from someone who is actually not a sea away ;)
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Hello Sheila, these are really quite beautiful! There is a lovely balance between the complexity of the subjects in this series and the direct simplicity with with you are handling them. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely as usual Sheila. My photographs are rarely satisfactory, sometimes I think that is the main reason that I paint!
ReplyDeleteLove the Haddon Hall paintings, especially this one. Great work.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Sheila, It is always so nice to see you take on a subject that we don't see you do often. You handle every subject so well.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind comments. I am late in responding because I have had to replace the cable on my laptop and it has taken some days to do that.
