Circus days

Oil on board 32" x 24"

Sometimes when I look at other people's work I can tell someone has taught them how to use paint. They have a beautiful stroke. I was never taught that and it seems something very difficult to just "pick up" on your own.  The audience in this painting is on the edge because that's how audiences are. There always seemed to be an aggressiveness, even a viciousness about circuses and I always felt sorry for the animals. The clowns seemed to know all that. They were hardly ever "happy" people.
