"Shirley" clay with surface colour 9" high
I made these two little figures some weeks ago but was uncertain about how to finish them. I have always liked Manuel Neri's use of paint on figures so I thought I would try a personal approach along those lines. I like the way the figures are fairly realistic but the paint application absolutely abstract. I used Chroma matt finish as their acrylics are very deeply saturated. I might finish them with a gloss medium but the dried paint when applied thickly dries with a bit of a sheen that I like.
The cracks you see on "Shirley" are intentional. I felt it important to keep them. You can see Shirley below, uncoloured, with the title "Holding out". (She must have been holding out for some colour).
