It felt so good to be doing a figure at close range again. I really enjoyed working on this. It felt so natural. Must do some more.
Learning strategy: I did a big painting based on this photo about 3 years ago but this time I eliminated all the fuss in the background and kept to very simple shapes. I was more courageous with the colour too, even adding a stroke of cadmium red to her hair. I am learning how to combine a good acrylic underpainting with a top finish of oil, letting some of the acrylic show through a little in places. The composition reminds me how much I love angular shapes. Don't want to lose that.
