Ancestor 2

Clay with surface colour 3" x 3" x 2"

A similar piece to the one below. These little sculptures seem to be speaking to me so I suppose that's an indication that they would like to see more of their family. It's a quiet occupation and quite different in feeling to painting. I love it.

  2. Thank you Barbara. I watched a documentary the other day where Anthony Caro (sculptor) was being interviewed. He was asked "What is sculpture for?" He answered "I don't know what it is for. It's just something human beings do. They take little bits of clay and stick them together. But I don't know what it is for. What's life for ?"
I think that answer could apply to any of the arts - painting, dancing, music and so on. It's just something that some of us feel compelled to do. I'm learning not to agonise over it any more, just go with my gut ! As you say, the call to create is moving and moves us.
