Clay sculpture with surface colour approx 13" x 10" x 6"
This piece was "finished" a couple of weeks ago but the bisque colouring was too heavy for me so today I rubbed most of it off with small files. I see now that she has a little bit of angst about her but she has a feathered friend to help her get through. And she is a tough lady so she will survive.
I allowed a dark cushion and a stained chair seat to be the setting and photographed her in bright sunlight coming through the attic dormer window. So lucky to be able to do all this.
Techie note: I used DAS air drying clay for this piece. It hardly cracks at all and carves wonderfully once it is totally dried, so you get the best of both worlds - modelling and carving. I did make a rough armature of aluminum wire and polystyrene blocks which I will leave in there for additional support as air drying clay never needs to be kiln fired so there is no need to remove the armature.
